Charlie, Mel, & Moammar

August Is Upon Us. Are You Ready?

Charlie, Mel, & Moammar

It would appear that the media continues to miss the boat every time a real issue regarding the possibility of mental illness comes about. We saw regarding Arizona as well as Virginia Tech how mental illness played a roll in such moments but it shouldn’t take someone with mental illness and a gun to get the media’s attention. With that said, we have Charlie, someone I believe is a brilliant man, a very good actor, and one whom may seriously be suffering from a form of mental illness.

What does the media do, they mock him but why? Is it because there ratings are so bad that the only way they can make themselves feel better is to knock a man down when he is already down. They need to turn the cameras on themselves if they are looking for a story about someone with issues and do stories on themselves, for we are all a few French fries short of a Happy Meal.

Gadhafi is someone else who despite the strong possibility that he might have recently killed 1,000 of his own people, very well may also be suffering from mental illness. Do those in the media ride a white horse of mercy to educate the public regarding the possibilities to why Gadhafi says what he says and does what he does? No.

Let’s not forget Mel, one of the most famous actors of the 1980’s and 90’s. The man was shown by the media to be a raciest, alcoholic, lunatic and maybe Mel may have been or still may be, but did the media take any real effort to again educate there audience about mental illness? No

As for Mel and Charlie, could they also be going through some kind of mid life crisis while contending with a possible mental illness which sometime becomes increasingly intense when either drugs and or alcohol are added into the mix? I wouldn’t know because the news media hasn’t done the right kind of investigating needed to tell a true story, to give a real picture. The news media may counter with a statement similar to “Not having enough time to spend on any particular story” If that is the case, then I tell the news media, don’t bring out someone’s dirty laundry when you can’t find time to wash it with him or her.

I try so hard not to be judgmental, always looking at the bigger picture but many news groups continue to down play a serious issue more of us should be aware of.

To all of those mentioned, Bless You

Blessed Be!
