Saint Kathy

She’s not your typically known saint in fact she was born, lived, and died as a Jew. She was an educated woman who lived two lives, day in and day out and made a huge impact in my life. She was born only a few years prior to myself, lived in different parts of the United States, and went to school at James Madison University. She was going to work in the computer industry during the early 1980’s and had a life in front of her that could take her anywhere. She knew her plans included the idea of getting married and having children as she herself came from a very good and educated family where she was the oldest of four sisters.

Then one night, everything changed.

On her way back from being out on a double date while still at university, the car she was sitting in and another car came together leaving Kathy hanging on to life while the three others she was with were able to walk away from the accident.

Over time Kathy would recover but was changed. She found herself unable to ever walk again. She lost the ability to use one of her two arms and had become head injured thus the mind and body of this vibrant young lady would be different for her longer than when she was the young care free college student, ready to take on life. During the time I knew Kathy, five years to be exact, I saw that she always kept a positive spirit despite her new way of living; a spirit that came from a body unaffected by mood stabilizers for Kathy was not on any psychotropic medication. She kept a brilliant way about her, always participating in group sessions, cleaning the residential house that she resided in to the best of her ability, and despite her allergy’s to cats, always made sure to pet the house cat every day with a broom and a soft touch.

She never stopped wanting to have children nor the dream of being married. One brisk evening I remember asking her, had none of these challenges ever come her way, what would she be doing on a cool night like that particular evening? Kathy’s answer was that she would (walk) up the street to the local McDonalds to meet up with the husband and children that she never had.

Kathy’s life came to a close some time ago when she lost her battle with cancer but during her lifetime she became what I would consider one of the greatest teachers I had ever had. She taught me to live life to the fullest. She also reminded me that the life I was born into may not be the life I leave from. She engraved in my heart the idea of being grateful for the simplest of things such as the ability to leave your house without having to ask for assistance or taking a five minute shower instead of one that would take her thirty minutes simply because it took her so long to get herself prepared to enjoy the common pleasures of washing a dirty body.

A few years after Kathy passed away and based on my own spirituality, having an idea of what all saints have to go through before having such rank, I decided to consider Kathy to be a part of the sainthood. She had educated not just me but many others regarding life in general while taking on the challenges she was faced to deal with every day for the last twenty years of her life. The greatest miracle she performed was the one she performed on me, that being that I should not take the life I live for granted and that it could end while another begins, without ever leaving this world in the process. On the day I decided with my creator that Kathy deserved such a title, I asked this dear friend of mine to become my own personal saint, to look after me and grow with me as I continued to search for myself. Since then and as my spirituality has grown, I have now asked Saint Kathy to also look after my entire coven whether they are here on this earth and/or on the other side. My life has blossomed greatly since calling upon a dear friend to be my personal saint and although I know there are many others on the other side that bless me with there time and energy while looking after me, my Saint Kathy is one of them.

Has anyone in your life stepped in and changed it for the better only to move on from this life before you? Might I suggest you show your appreciation and work with your creator/s on a personal note and request from them, anoint them, and invite them to be your personal saint?

Blessed Be-
