Thanksgiving
Here in the United States, a very positive energy is on the horizon. For me, it actually began on Halloween, for the following days leading up to New Years Eve, including that beautiful spiritual night of All Hallows Eve, are for me, the greatest time of the year.
Unfortunately, despite my many travels around the world, I don’t know if other countries celebrate a day of pure gratitude like we do on the 24th of November but wouldn’t it be great if we all did?
For those who are unaware of this brilliant day, Thanksgiving is a day when family from around the city, state, country, and world come together to give thanks for not only one another but to give thanks for the blessings they have in there lives. It is also a moment of reflection while at the same time sizing up the past to the present. It is a day of roasted turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, green beans, stuffing, and or anything one has for a festive meal with others.
When sizing up the year as well as the past, based on the economic times of today, there may be those that wonder if they have anything to be grateful for. To them, I say yes you do. To be able to live in the moment of the day is a blessing in of itself for you have made it this far and despite any loss you may have encountered along the way, be it a job, money, a family member, or anything else you find significant to claim as a loss, you are here, you are alive, you have a chance to work towards a better you and a better future. You still have time to make a positive impact on the world and remember; anything positive is a big impact. I refer to a story about an old man who felt as though he had nothing in his life. One day, he found himself on a corner street preparing to cross when he suddenly saw a small child, lost who wanted to cross the same street. Cars were racing along, dodging street lights and stop signs, making the idea of crossing the road a very dangerous situation. The old man who never really liked children to begin with, decided to help this child none the less. The two walked across the street where the small child was able to find his mother. After thanking the old man for his kindness the two walked home together and the old man went his own way. The old man died years later feeling as though he hadn’t done anything magnificent in his life but not to many years later, that little boy ended up running for senate seat and won, assisting those in his community and making the lives of many much better.
We don’t know at any given moment, the impact of our actions but if we can find it deep down inside to give of ourselves, if only for a moment, we can accomplish so much, leading to blessings for others we ourselves could never imagine.
Please let it be known that this Thanksgiving, as I consider the many facets that come upon that day, I will also take a moment out for you and give thanks for despite the fact we may not know each other as well as we might like or never cross paths again, it is my opinion that we all could benefit from a thank you for just being you. Thank you.
Blessed Be-
